Read a summary of Sunrise Rotary Club Member accomplishments for the Rotary Year July 2008- June 2009.  Everyone contributed their time and resources!

 

Club leaders presented their summary of our accomplishments in the June 18 meeting.  President Katie thanked ALL MEMBERS for their work.   Our club is average size but very results oriented!

Community Service:

  1. Flood Relief:  About $12,000 has been disbursed to groups supporting the victims, including the Metro Area Rotary Project (7 Clubs) providing appliance vouchers.
  2. Camp Hitaga: This Campfire resource was supported with funds and volunteer labor.  The Camp has been a long-term recipient of Sunrise Rotary support.
  3. Make-A-Wish:  Our long-running support added about $11,000 through the annual Chili Supper.
  4. Salvation Army: A cold day of bell ringing paired up Rotarians to support this overworked community relief organization.
  5. State of the Schools: Sunrise once again sponsored the State of the Schools updates from the Superintendents of Lin-Mar and Cedar Rapids Districts.
  6. High School Scholarships: Five scholarships of $500 were awarded this year.
  7. Pribyl Golf Tournament: Sunrise volunteers helped at this multi-day tournament for Middle and High School kids across the 5 Metro School Districts.

International Service:

  1. Rotary Youth Exchange:  John Erusha is wrapping up his year in Argentina. Two students are lined up for 2009-2010!
  2. Ambassadorial Scholar:  Nick Barnes has returned from Israel. Nick is our Club's FIRST Ambassadorial Scholar.  

Rotary Foundation:

  1. Foundation Giving was strong.  Matching PHF credits enabled more to begin their planned giving to the many programs in the Foundation, including End Polio Now, and other ongoing health and education programs RI supports.

Membership:

  1. Six new members joined Rotary this year:  Theresa, Karen, Devendra, Ron, Deb, and Roger.  Lets keep inviting and welcoming potential members.

Recognition:

  1. Rotarian of the Year:  Kirk Ulveling was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow as $1000 was donated to the Rotary Foundation in his name.  Kirk has made the Chili Supper/Make-A-Wish fundraiser really work, every year.  Thank you Kirk!

Vocational Service:

  1. Club Break-out meetings were held at 4 areas businesses in February.

Club Service:

  1. Annual Dinner Auction raised $6,000, the dinner and social enjoyed by all.
  2. Annual Christmas Party was enjoyed by all who could attend.
  3. Wine tasting was held in the Krause home, with over $500 raised for Scholarships.
